چکیده
There were 33 mongrel dogs weighing 17.7 to 22.2 kg (average, 17.5 kg) (39 to 49 Ib [average, 38.5 lb]) used as recipients. The experiment was completed in 11 animals. The other 22 died early of anesthetic, technical, and septic complications and are excluded from further discussion. In the 11 test dogs the donors (weight 9.5 to 20 kg [21 to 44 lb]) were smaller than their recipients, the average weight being 13.6 kg (30 lb). The general surgical techniques and the studies obtained postoperatively were similar to those described in previous publication~.',~ The average ischemia time for the cooled TABLE 1.-Dogs With Patent Portal Venous and Hepatic Arterial Inflow to the Homograft

متن کاملThe Need to Handicap the Recipient's Native Liver in the Rat Model of Heterotopic Auxiliary Liver Transplantation
In the rat model of heterotopic auxiliary liver transplantation (HALTx), the opinion varies on whether and how the recipient's native liver should be handicapped. To avoid atrophy of the transplanted organ, in this study, two different handicaps were evaluated and their effects on post-operative animal survival and liver biology are described. With a sole portacaval shunt (group 1) all rats sur...

متن کاملIntraportal insulin protects from the liver injury of portacaval shunt in dogs.
4 days after portacaval shunt, the livers of normal dogs had pronounced atrophy and other structural abnormalities. These changes were greatly reduced in the left liver lobes, but not in the right, by a constant infusion to the left portal vein of insulin in non-hypoglycaemic doses. These experimental findings should have implications in clinical medicine.
